The fish trail has been part of Hull's DNA for many years, with some sculptures that we know very well, and others that need us to search and look a bit more closely. The Xray fishes live quietly right in the centre of Hull, where hundreds of people walk by daily, but would need to look properly to find them. We thought their hidden quality was fun, and that we should shine a light on them. The pupils' research told them that the fish were known to be peaceful and sociable, and liked to be in groups. What a great motivation for a collective project! We were also inspired by the many fish carved into small pavers, including herring and whitebait. These blocks led to the formation of the X, which we hope helps people make the visual connection to the trail.

This was a collaborative project across the school including: the KS3 textiles club, the Learning Support Centre and the Ace House. It was wonderful to see how many crafty people there were in the school, and to have the opportunity to work on a shared project was unique.
