The Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Park is a local charity bringing people together through their shared love of the park and a belief in the power of community. Through volunteering, creativity, conservation and social activities, the Friends aim to make the park a welcoming place where people of all ages can connect, learn new skills and feel part of something positive.
Hull KR (Hull Kingston Rovers) is one of Hull’s two professional rugby league clubs, with a proud history and a passionate following that stretches across generations. Deeply rooted in the East Hull community, the club represents much more than rugby, bringing people together through shared identity, pride and a strong sense of belonging.
This piece was created through the coming together of volunteers at the park, who shared ideas and worked together to develop the design. One new volunteer joined the group with a vision for the finished piece, dedicating her time not only to bringing that vision to life but also to sharing her sewing skills and building confidence among younger volunteers. Other volunteers made robins at home in their own time, each contributing to a project built on kindness, creativity and community spirit. A huge thank you to Sally for her time, commitment and dedication.
An unexpected and wonderful outcome has been the creation of opportunities for future crafting sessions at the park, to be delivered by the HKR Foundation. What began as a creative project has opened the door to new connections, shared skills and more opportunities for people to come together. It is a lovely example of what the Friends of Alderman Kneeshaw Park are all about: creating opportunities for people to connect, feel valued and make a difference together. One creative project has already grown into something bigger, and we look forward to seeing where these new connections lead.
