The group is made up of ladies from the art activities group on a Saturday at the Library and the coffee and chat group on a Wednesday at the library. They’ve worked together on a few projects but this was the biggest and creative that they have done. From deciding what was going on the tapestry to how they were going to do it.

As a group they set off with great enthusiasm. They then had a bit of a wobble with disagreements on what was being represented, then talked themselves through it. Finally finishing it with pride. It shows how this sort of project can bring people together and over come challenges that are very different to the norm.

The tapestry as we are calling it represents all the different elements of Gipsyvilles past and present community. The group are very committed to telling the story of how Gipsyville developed and evolved as a different community from the one we all know about on Hessle rd.

The things that are represented on the tapestry are symbolic of the area. Factories, parks and whale bones, historic tiles down a ten foot. The library, the rugby club and community centre. As part of doing this piece was the exploring of why Gipsyville was built and its history and that bit has been as much fun as doing it.
